Frequently Asked Questions
What is Frontier Housing?
Frontier Housing is a non-profit affordable housing provider offering home
building, mortgage lending, and homebuyer education. Our goal is to help
people to become homeowners. Our Promise to you is a quality home with
fair financing.Who is Eligible?
Frontier Housing has a range of programs to serve families at many
different income levels. We can currently serve households with incomes
of at least $750 per month with owned property and $860 per month without owned
property. However, these limits are subject to
change based on available funding. Our service area includes Bath, Boyd, Carter,
Elliott, Fleming, Magoffin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Rowan, and Wolfe Counties.
Does It Matter if I Have Bad Credit?
Your past credit plays a role in whether or not we can approve a loan for
you. However, if your credit is a problem, we have programs that can work
with you to help clear up past mistakes.
Does it Matter How Old I Am? Or What Size My Family Is?
No. You must be at least eighteen to legally sign a loan agreement, but
Frontier offers services regardless of how old you are or how many people
will be living in your home. Frontier provides equal housing and lending
opportunities and does not deny services to anyone based on race, color,
national origin, religion, age, familial status, or handicap status.
What Kind of House Can I Get?
You have many options with Frontier. We have a variety of ranch style
homes that have vinyl siding and range from about 1,000 to 1,600 square
feet. Click here to see drawings and floor plans of Frontier homes.
Depending on the program you qualify for you may be eligible to buy an
existing house, a modular home, or a manufactured home.
How Many Bedrooms Can I Get?
It depends on what you can afford. Most of the homes Frontier builds have
three bedrooms. More bedrooms may be approved, but it depends upon your
family size and situation. And of course, this would change depending on
whether you were purchasing an existing home. Basically, it depends on how
much house you can afford for your income.
How Long Does it Take?
If you have no credit problems and choose land or a home that we have
available, or if we can build on land you already own, we can get you into
your new home in about four months. The process can take longer if you
need to resolve credit issues or if you take a while to find land.
How Much Will My Payment Be?
Your monthly payment will include your house payment, homeowners
insurance, and property taxes. While this may vary based upon the program
that you qualify for, you will generally pay between 25% and 29% of your
gross monthly household income. Your home purchase price, income and
credit score will impact your payment.
Why Does Frontier Do This?
Frontier was founded in 1974, when a few committed volunteers got together
to help folks in the area who needed better housing. They believed, as we
do today, that everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable home. By
helping people become homeowners, we hope to improve individual lives, but
we also feel that we are building better, stronger communities that are
good for all of us.
