Golf Scramble - 2009

Morehead, Kentucky—Frontier Housing hosted the 1st Annual Friends of Frontier Golf Scramble on Friday, October 2nd at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead. Over 80 golfers and volunteers from Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, Virginia, and Tennessee braved the rainy weather to support affordable housing solutions in eastern Kentucky.

Walmart, Heiner’s Bakery, State Farm Insurance, and other local and regional sponsors provided food and beverages, door prizes, silent auction items, and other vital support to make this event possible. Despite varying degrees of golf knowledge, Frontier board members and staff kept the scramble and additional golf contests running smoothly. Kent Selby of Norris Homes in Bean Station, Tennessee told Stacey Epperson, President and CEO of Frontier, “Your staff did an excellent job in preparing for this event, where everything in the world could go wrong including the weather… my hat is off to your team on a job well done”.

The Scramble was hosted by Frontier Housing’s Board of Directors and led by Friends of Frontier Committee Chair, Scott Napier, Store Manager of Wal-mart in Morehead. Board Chair, Frank Olson noted, “Scott did an amazing job of getting teams in and overseeing the entire event. There were lots of friends of Frontier Housing who came out, contributed with time and money, and who helped spread the word of the work that we do. I feel a lot of golfers learned a great deal about us as the day progressed. So, thanks to the Board, to the staff, to the golfers, to Eagle Trace and to the wide-ranging Frontier Housing Community for making the scramble such a success.”

With sponsors from six states, Frontier Housing raised over $12,000 after expenses to support Frontier’s mission and goals. Stacey Epperson noted, “The funds raised from this event will help further the creation of affordable housing in the region. The great success of this inaugural event has set the stage for continued excellence in the coming years.”
