The Boodry Place Dedication Was Magical

July 31, 2008 -
Just mention affordable, quality built housing, and it brings to mind Frontier Housing. And such is the case with Boodry Place, Frontier’s newest multi-family project in downtown Morehead. July 31 at Boodry Place was — in a word —“magical.” With weather that at the last minute decided to cooperate, dignitaries in place and residents eager to share their thoughts, the dedication of Boodry Place was a wonderful, well-attended event. It was truly a magical day for both the residents of Boodry Place and for Frontier and its project partners.

Telling the crowd how wonderful it was to see so many familiar faces again, Stacey Epperson said, “We are honored and humbled to be able to dedicate this building today. It is truly a Community of Choice, where folks want to and choose to live.”

State Representative Rocky Adkins           State Representative John Will Stacy          State Senator Blevins

State Representative Rocky Adkins spoke eloquently about the impact being made in our community and the need for further projects of this magnitude. Prior to the unveiling of the dedication plaques, Adkins joined State Representative John Will Stacy and Senator Walter Blevins to offer remarks. Adkins lauded the achievements of Frontier and spoke of Frontier’s President & CEO, Stacey Epperson, continuing leading role in affordable housing. Her vision of the future has guided the new path of Frontier and set the stage to effectively move the local group into the future.

Also in attendance were the Boodry family, including Glen’s widow, Patsy, their 4 children and families. Carol Boodry Wilcox, daughter of Glen and Patsy, gave a moving speech and shared how Glen would have been so proud to have his name on such a magnificent building.

Working together with Community Housing Partners Corporation, a sister nonprofit out of Christiansburg, Virginia, the project came in ahead of schedule. With 11 residents already moved in and several more coming soon, it shouldn’t take long to fill up. Said Epperson, “When you travel a long and exciting road like the one we are on, it is very important to have good partners. Community Housing Partners Corporation is a great partner because of their high standards, and because of the strong sense of teamwork they bring to these projects.”

In closing, she added, “For me personally, the dedication of this building in the name of Glen Boodry, former Frontier Board member and supporter, insures a continuity of affordable housing for many years to come and in its most basic form provides a home – a home for 32 wonderful families and seniors.”

Boodry Place residents Lynne Morel, Sharon Cartee, Phyllis Moore and Michael Williams were all on hand for the dedication and to offer comments and praise the efforts of Frontier on such a magnificent facility. Immediately following the speeches and presentation of the dedication plaques, a ribbon cutting was held at the main entrance. Tours of the building followed along with lots of good food and time spent making new acquaintances and renewing old friendships.
